Watching the s***show that is the virus situation in the US is such an odd combination of frustration and pity and heartbreak. So many dead. And it didn't have to be this way! 

It's not just a crisis of leadership, though that is of course a big part of it. It's a crisis of critical thinking -- or rather, un-critical unthinking. To value the tenuous "freedom" of not wearing a mask above the freedom of, erm, being healthy and alive -- what mushrooms are these people smoking??

i don't know if the US is ever going to regain its standing in the world order after this, even if Trump and Trumpism are eliminated for good. The world has seen too much of what the citizens are like. And even if it's a caricature, even if it's not the majority of its people -- the fact is, these people exist. i honestly cannot understand.
