last resort

i've always thought that satire is the last refuge of the powerless. Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration. But by the time employees in an organisation, for example, resort to satirising the organisational culture / leaders etc, it's usually because they've tried other means of changing things and seen them fail. So what does it say about US politics, that the New Yorker has started writing satirical little pieces like this one:

Republicans accuse Obama of using position as President to lead country.

Okok ... maybe i'm reading too much into this. Maybe it just means that Americans actually have a sense of humour. :)
