At ths risk of totally losing my credibility as someone who really ought to know better, let me set down this, set down this:

Recently, i've been struck several times by the total inadequacy of language to express the things we feel, think and know. Simple words, like 'fear', 'green', 'age', 'understanding', have started to take on a new and strange appearance, and i feel sometimes like i'm seeing them for the first time, and, for the first time, seeing how little they actually say about what they purport to tell us.

Maybe this is a sign that i am really and truly losing it.
