heart of steel

i'm really, really glad i came here with very muted expectations of what my experience here would be like, because i've encountered everything i've expected to encounter (and this is definitely not a case of self-fulfilling expectations because these things are entirely outside my control). i'm glad i came here, knowing exactly what price i would have to pay, and having steeled my heart to pay it.
