back to skool

i guess the nice thing about going back to school when you're older is that you know who you are, and you know what you want. And, you value learning, or rather, you value the opportunity to learn, in a way that younger people don't (because they generally take it for granted). There's nothing quite like years in the workforce to make you realise how precious it is to actually have dedicated time set aside to just learn new things and be a student once again.

i made so many mistakes as an undergrad -- rookie mistakes, no doubt, but mistakes anyway. It's nice to get the chance to learn from your mistakes and start over again. This time, i will make sure i make friends from countries other than Singapore (i will have to, this time), and i will also make sure i attend lectures in other subject areas, just to expand my knowledge and to learn beyond my very narrow subject area. i will get more involved, ask more, do more, dare more. i will not be the shrinking cabbage that i was an an undergrad.

It's interesting, too, that this time, my life has a dimension that it didn't back in the undergrad years -- faith. i wonder how this will play out -- now that being part of a church community is a priority for me, together with everything else i'll be doing as a student and teacher. For a start, i'm certainly grateful for the community i've found and that has been welcoming and gracious so far.

Things have started on a good note. i hope they stay good, or get better.
