giving offence (2)

So, another friend who was listening in on yesterday's conversation about public blogging and giving offence, pointed out that writers inevitably will give offence at some point: it comes with the territory. i'm not sure if i entirely agree with that -- i think there's lots of writing that wholly unoffensive. But i guess that if what one wants to do is to create change, to make things better -- then, giving offence unfortunately does come with the package. i suppose that the only way to avoid ever offending anyone, is to have no convictions at all about anything, or to stay entirely silent about one's convictions. And, i guess, i'm just not that kind of person.
