fanatic fandom

My other blog is a BMW. But this is a bandanna-pink Volkswagen Beetle - for flirty frivolous fun and fanatic fandom. This is where i get to play the bimbonic-geek and rave, enthuse, bitch and rant about anything and everything under the sun. Feel free to chip in!

sex

i've been looking at some of the posts that some of my acquaintances from my previous church have put up on their FBs, and i've followed those posts to their respective websites and checked out the sites as well. And i've come to this conclusion:
.
The significant part of the reason why we now have this insanity running rampage in the White House and threatening to disrupt the existing international order is because of just one small little word: sex.
.
i think a lot of Christians in the US voted Trump because of issues like abortion, gay marriage, and transgender rights. They were willing to overlook at whole host of other ways in which Trump was behaving in very decidedly unChristian ways, simply because he was smart enough to understand that a whole demographic group in the US were feeling threatened, angry and resentful about the way the Democrats had legislated a secular-liberal sexual ethic into federal law, and used that in his campaigning. Visiting some of these American-Christian websites is like visiting an alternative universe. They have somehow managed to paint a picture of a benign, champion-of-the-faith Donald Trump who may have a few flaws and may be a bit unconventional, but is going to restore the place of Christianity as moral majority in a country that's been going down the moral drain in the eight years of the Obama presidency.
.
This is heartbreaking, and also, to be honest, infuriating. People, there is this thing called "nuance"! i'm not going to go into the arguments or the theology here, but this is just one example of the black-and-white thinking that i encountered both times i visited the US, on both ends of the ideological spectrum, liberal and conservative. An inability to evaluate the totality of an situation, to assign an appropriate weight to each aspect of a situation, and make a decision from there. Single-issue voting, in other words; or perhaps in this case, double-issue voting, which isn't very much better.
.
American Christians, what have you done?????? (One is tempted to add, How did you become so stupid?????)
