deadlines

A deadline appeared in my email inbox today -- a much-appreciated, totally needed, completely unanticipated deadline. It's a wonderful writing opportunity, and the fact that it comes with a fairly tight deadline is even better -- i need deadlines, i've discovered, and cannot function without them.

Deadlines are galvanising, exciting things. At their best, they make your heart beat faster and your mind think clearer; suddenly there is direction, a goal, something to direct your energy and attention towards. Stress can be a good thing. Life with no stress at all, is not very much of a life.
