God i miss Taiwan.

One of these days, i'm going to find a way to articulate exactly what it was about that one-week Taiwan trip that made it (seem?) so pivotal. Surely it wasn't just because i had conceived of it precisely as a transit-point between one thing (this particular period of school-teaching) and another (writing what i hope will be my first book). There was something else about it -- something about the conversations i had there, what i saw of the way people live there -- that i think will turn out to have a profound effect on the way i think and see things. i just don't know, yet, exactly what that effect is, and exactly what the triggering factors were.

PS:
In other news. As far as my falling in love with other countries goes -- i think it's far more convenient to miss Taiwan than to miss Norway. At least it's much closer to Singapore, and much cheaper. And i can converse with them in their native language. And the food in Taiwan is sooooooo much better than in Norway.
