singapore poetry
[It's become the accepted usage -- 'Singapore poetry' instead of 'Singaporean poetry'. i don't think i'll ever stop cringing.]
.
Something about reading poetry about Singapore that makes me feel so suffocated. It's the same feeling of suffocation that i get when i listen to my Civil Service friends talking about the Civil Service.
.
Actually, come to think of it, i feel the same sense of suffocation when i'm cooped up in a room for more than a few hours at a time. (i first noticed this a few years ago, but it was only on this Taiwan trip that i became quite clear that this is a thing for me. i didn't like working in my room, and had to bring my computer out into the open air areas where i could look up and see the sky, the clouds, the silhouettes of the mountains in the distance.)
.
Maybe there's a larger pattern here that i've never noticed before.
