driving at night

i love driving at night here in Singapore. Well, maybe i'd love driving at night elsewhere too, but since i haven't yet tried, all i can say with certainty is that i love doing it here. There are fewer cars on the road, the temperatures are not so hot (you can feel the difference, even with the aircon on), and in the dark everything looks gentler, softer. It's wonderful, that feeling of freedom and movement you get driving down the highways, with the music on -- whether it be something classical or something a bit more contemporary -- a voice singing softly to a guitar, maybe, or something soft and jazzy.

There are some nights when i'm driving home from somewhere, and i'm seized by the sudden wish to just go on a long detour along some quiet highway somewhere in the outskirts of the island, around Kranji or Sembawang, for example. Maybe one day i'll actually do it. With my GPS on so i don't get lost. Yeah. Maybe.
