then the letting go
This process of giving away my dad's books is turning out to be harder than i thought. It's not just about wanting to hoard things, or to keep a physical remembrance of things past, although that is definitely a big part of it. i think what makes it so hard to let these books go is the knowledge that they are an important part of Singapore's cultural heritage, and of my own family history; and the corresponding knowledge that i know so little of this past that has made me, in part, who i am.
.
This is all rather silly, i guess. If the books are going to a library, then so much the better for our cultural heritage. And i can always go look them up if i want to learn about my family history. i guess i just find it hard to let the past go, and to let go of things that i don't understand. To let go of the questions. It's a lesson i need to learn.
