what is given

Me: Remind me again, why am i doing This Writing Thing?

Friend: Short answer: because not doing This Writing Thing would be to squander all the gifts, opportunities and impetus you have been given thus far.

Sigh. Yes. Why are my friends always so sensible??? From those to whom much is given, much is expected -- and i have been given so much. And i'm not ungrateful. Other beginning writers would kill for the opportunities and openings i've had. It is always gift, i don't even have to work (that much) for it... Or perhaps it'd be more accurate to say, what i do for it doesn't feel like work -- it is almost always joy, even if mixed with pain.

i guess, then, what i still need to learn, is to stop wanting to be given something else.
